Students are to submit their elevator pitches through the iStart portal. Once submitted the committe members will assign judges and make a determination as to the top 10 finalists that will be given the opportunity to "pitch" thier idea to a panel of judges comprised of industry professionals.
Remember, an elevator pitch is a brief overview of an idea for a product, service or project. The pitch is so called because it can be delivered to a potential investor in the time span of an elevator ride.
The following factors are esessential in a succesful elevator pitch:
- The idea/opportunity is creative, original, and memorable.
- The product and/or service addresses a real need by customers
- The market opportunity and potential returns are compelling and believable
- The pitch information is presented in a clear, concise, and logical order.

Rowan Pitch Contest Fall, 2011
Welcome to the Rowan Fall, 2011 Elevator Pitch Competition!
Elevator pitch is a frequently used term, which literally means “tell me about your business within the time that it would take to ride up an elevator.” Each year we conduct two contests -- one in the fall and one in the spring -- for students from the Entrepreneurship and Innovation course. Last year's contests involved over 150 students whose pitches were critiqued and rated by a pool of 90+ RU alumni judges. Judges give each pitch feedback on strengths and weaknesses. The 10 top-rated competitors present their two-minute business pitch before a live panel of judges on October 7. The winners are announced at the end of the event. The top three winners are sent to the National Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization Conference located in Chicago, Illinoise. The top winner in the SPRING contest is RU's automatic entry in the national elevator pitch contest. The Fall 2011 CEO conference and pitch contest is to be held in Fort Worth, Texas.
